Destination Pre-Wedding Photoshoot: Davos, Switzerland

28 June 2019 Photographer news

The alpine town of Davos in Switzerland is not only a romantic getaway; it also makes for a stunning pre-wedding photoshoot location, given that most every angle of the town is scenic and unforgettable. It’s perfect in particular for couples who are not constrained by a budget given that a trip to Davos is not exactly cheap. If that’s something that interests you, here are a few specific pre-wedding photoshoot locations you can check out in the area.

Ski Areas

There are six main ski areas that connect Davos: Parsenn, Jakobshorn, Pischa, Madrisa, Rinerhorn, and Schatzalp-Strela. You don’t have to be an advanced skier to enjoy simply being in the presence of these wondrous slopes (though a photoshoot on skis might be a fun idea!). Because Parsenn is the largest, it also tends to attract the greatest number of people on any given day. Your best bet might be on Rinerhorn, as it is the least crowded of the six. Regardless of your final choice though, all of these ski areas make for stunning backgrounds for any photoshoot. Just make sure to wear clothing that stands out against the blanket of white. And who knows? Maybe you’ll even get lucky with some light snowfall!

Sertig Valley

Even if you don’t go during the winter, the beauty of Davos can be beyond description. During the warmer seasons, the flora comes to life and brings a certain liveliness to the already-charming town. There are several well-marked trails in the area that might lead to a stunning location for a photoshoot. Of course, this idea will also revolve somewhat around the fitness level of the couple (and photographer) in question – but there are plenty of manageable options. One particular idea that comes to mind is to take a short hike around Sertig Valley and find the small chapel there. Though tiny, the Sertig Valley chapel is beautiful all year long. It’s all the more special, too, when you learn that it hosts wedding ceremonies itself, and has been around since 1699!

Casino Davos

Casinos might not ordinarily come to mind for pre-wedding photoshoots – but in this area, visiting Casino Davos is a must. You don’t actually need to have the casino in the background. However, it might be interesting to use the vibrant lights of casino games to create a bokeh effect (with the primary focus still on the couple, as it should be). Slot games are perhaps your best bet in creating this trendy effect – and yes, in-person casinos still have slot games! It’s true, as you may have heard, that online sites have commandeered the industry to some extent, and now host terrific slot games full of animations and features that in-person casinos can’t match. But it’s actually the vibrancy of in-person slots that led online games to develop so many features in the first place. Classic venues like Casino Davos still display blinking and twinkling rows of slots in all their over-the-top glory, meaning this unusual but intriguing photo idea is definitely an option.

Grand Hotel Belvedere

Staying at the Grand Hotel Belvedere is a great way to feel like royalty for a night or two – which really ought to be part of the wedding experience! The exterior of this luxury hotel alone is picture perfect, especially at night when all the lights are turned on. Take advantage of its beautiful design by snapping a few dozen photos for your pre-wedding shoot, and then, if you can swing it, enjoy the hotel itself to cap off your time in Davos.
